There are reports today of projections for mobile phone ownership globally.
Specifically, ITU (the UN’s telecoms agency) predicts that more than half the world’s population will own a mobile phone this year.
This is phenomenal! Even accounting for errors in the data – people who own more than 1 phone for instance – this is amazing to consider. 3.3bn mobile phone subscriptions.
My first phone was a cutting edge Nokia 8110 – IIRC it cost $1499 to buy on a $70/month plan with Telstra in 1996… Ah, such memories…
