First post!

Welcome to my Science blog. This is the first post of what will, hopefully, become a convenient library of links to news and other stories of advances in the world of Science and Technology.

As a teacher, I often feel that we provide you, the students, with too a limited view of what science is, or where the truly amazing advances are occurring. The amount of class time we have is insufficient to explore our civilisation’s accelerating rate of knowledge acquisition – we know more and more every day, our text books are out of date before they are printed, and there is little space in traditional curriculums for anything that isn’t directly related to assessment tasks. And that’s depressing.

So here I want to keep a record of some the interesting or weird stories that I find on the web in the hope that you, like me, will begin to read a little more widely.

The world truly is an amazing place.
