Does this sound like someplace you’d like to visit?
Methane and ethane fill the air with a dirty haze that rains down as ash, and rivers run with a gasoline-like liquid… hydrocarbons collect in black lakes with surfaces as smooth as glass—perhaps as many as a hundred lakes and seas in the north pole region alone.
This is the description of conditions on the surface of Titan, the largest of Saturn’s moons. The Cassini probe recently photographed a large lake of these liquid hydrocarbons, confirming the existence of a liquid-dependent climate system not unlike the water cycle on Earth.
Except that it would be toxic to a normal Earth organism…
